About the Artist

Joe Wilson was born in 1967 into the Cowichan Tribes Native Band and was raised in Duncan, British Columbia. His interest in art began in elementary school and grew throughout his teenage years. By Grade 12, he was creating his own silkscreen print editions, and at age 17, he began selling his carvings at a local Koksilah Hills store. Since 1984, his work has reflected his search for his own cultural identity within Coast Salish art. Today, Joe is a respected and accomplished Coast Salish artist and carver whose pieces can be found in galleries and in both public and private collections around the world.
