About the Artist

Douglas (Bear) Horne is the son of master carver Doug LaFortune of the Tsawout First Nation and Kathleen Horne of the Pacheedaht First Nation. Raised in the Tsawout community, he has been surrounded by Coast Salish art since childhood and has learned from his father and other skilled family members. With more than 25 years dedicated to his craft, Doug has created a wide range of work including carved house posts, poles, masks, sculptures, panels, jewelry, and many graphic designs. His passion for Coast Salish art shines through in every piece, and his work can be found around the world.
